Art Byrne has been implementing Lean Strategy in various US based manufacturing companies for over 20 years. He has always done this from the position of President, CEO or Chairman of these organizations and as a result brings a unique perspective on the thinking and approach needed to make this successful. Art and the company he ran for 11 years, The Wiremold Company, have been written up in a number of books on the subject of Lean including “Lean Thinking” by Womack and Jones and “Better Thinking, Better Results” by Bob Emiliani [a detailed story about implementing Lean Strategy at The Wiremold Company].
For the past two years Art has been an Operating Partner at J. W. Childs Associates L. P., a Boston based Private Equity firm. In this role he has been implementing Lean in the various J. W. Childs’ portfolio companies often from the position of Chairman or Director. Prior to joining J. W. Childs, Art was the President, CEO and Chairman of The Wiremold Company where over the course of eight years he was able, through the implementation of Lean Strategy to more than quadruple the companies size, increase operating earnings over 13 times and take a company valued at approximately $30 million when he arrived and successfully sell it for $770 million.
Prior to joining Wiremold, Art served as Group Executive for the Danaher Corporation where he initiated Lean Management and got the company moving down the Lean path to what is now the highly acclaimed Danaher Business System. Prior to joining Danaher Art ran several businesses for The General Electric Company and was in fact one of the first practitioners of Lean at GE.
Art holds a BA in Economics from Boston College and an MBA from Babson College. He has spoken at numerous seminars on the subject of Lean Strategy.
